EDUCATOR
Natalie joined the jazz faculty of the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2015, teaching classical and jazz bass. She also runs the university's first Latin jazz and Brazilian ensembles, introducing students to a wide variety of musical styles, instruments and rhythms. Natalie gives lectures on instrumental jazzwomen, conducts clinics and workshops for developing musicians, and is a frequent adjudicator at jazz festivals. In 2018 and 2019 she joined the bass faculty of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops.
While working on her doctorate at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, she taught courses to undergraduate music majors. In 2012 Natalie was appointed director of the Attica Strings Project in Attica, Indiana, teaching violin to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. Possessing a multi-instrumentalist, Natalie has held a variety of other teaching positions. At the University of Louisville, she taught jazz bass lessons, directed the Latin Jazz Ensemble, co-conducted Jazz Ensemble II, and directed several jazz combos. After completing her Masters, she taught world music as an adjunct instructor at Jefferson Community and Technical College. She is a member of ASTA, JEN, and NAfME. |
